— About this Experience — The Poh Teck Tung Foundation is a charitable organization responsible for "saving the living and tending to the dead." Most of its staff are public volunteers who collectively maintain the foundation's operations. The founder was a Teochew Chinese expatriate who has since passed away; his contributions to Thailand were immense.
Beyond its general mission of poverty relief, the foundation is most renowned for its work in handling post-mortem affairs for the deceased, especially for unclaimed bodies and impoverished families who cannot afford a burial. The foundation gained international recognition during the Phuket tsunami, where it immediately embodied the spirit of treating the suffering of others as its own by assisting with on-site recovery and funerary arrangements.
